The Swiss NanoConvention (SNC) is the prime annual showcase for nanotechnology in Switzerland, bringing together experts from industry, universities, public research institutions, politics, and the media. If you are active in nanotechnology or interested in this field, participating at this event is a must for you. Since its start in 2011, the SNC has grown steadily and established itself as the only major public annual event in Switzerland on this topic. As a result the annual “Micro-Nano-Event” of the Swiss Commission for Technology and Inno- vation (CTI) has been integrated into the SNC. After the major scientific breakthroughs in nanoscience more than 30 years ago – like the scanning tunneling microscope in Switzerland – nanotechnology has become a mature field with many applications in our daily life and in industrial production. In 2014 we therefore put the focus of the SNC more on applications and the opportunities of nanotechnology for small and medium enterprises. This coincides perfectly with the formation of the “Hightechcenter Aargau” in 2013 in Brugg. It is a central part of the high-techstrategy of the canton of Aargau with a focus on nanotechnology.

An der Diskussionsrunde nehmen die Professoren Bernhard Wehrli, von der Eawag Abteilung Oberflächengewässer, und Nico Bruns vom Adolphe-Merkel-Institut der Universität Fribourg teil, zudem diskutiert Dr. Rex FitzGerald vom Swiss Centre for Applied Human Toxiology an der Universität Basel mit. Die Moderation übernimmt Christoph Keller. 

Developmental neurotoxicity from chemical exposures is a growing concern. The developing human nervous system is susceptible to pharmaceuticals and environmental contaminants, and exposure during development is known to cause lasting neurological deficits. This conference will bring together diverse stakeholders from around the globe, including research scientists, regulators, industry representatives, academics, and pediatricians.

To benefit from technological innovation by securing sustainable solutions and responding to global change while protecting our environment, there is a need to build bridges, overcome borders and connect boundaries between science and policy. SETAC members strive to provide the knowledge base for advancing the protection of environmental resources, engaging in platforms for the exchange of inter- and trans-disciplinary ideas and approaches. Therefore, in the true spirit of SETAC, this major international conference will be the bridge that brings together experts from academia, government and industry. The conference will focus on the most recent advances in environmental sciences and will provide a platform for  how to implement this knowledge to improve environmental risk assessment and shape policies – from current viewpoints to future needs.

The theme of the Symposium concerns one of the most progressing directions of science and technology. BioNanoToxicology Issues lie at the interface of many disciplines, ranging from biology to chemistry, toxicology, computational science chemistry, nanotechnology and biotechnology
. The Symposium is a continuation of a long term co-operation between Russian and Hellenic scientists in this field that has been ongoing for the last 20 years, in the frame of the bilateral scientific state programs. At this symposium the attendee will have the chance to meet important representatives of research in the field, discuss with them and exchange ideas. This will accomplish the aim of the symposium, which is the generation of new and vigorous interactions between the different aforementioned disciplines, which will have enormous positive effects in our societies.

DHM is an interdisciplinary meeting, bringing together researchers and physicians from different disciplines to exchange their most up-to-date data in this continually evolving field and to transfer it to clinical practice. It is the leading event of its kind, attracting up to 400 physicians and researchers from all over the world.  How small (and larger) molecules interact with the immune system and elicit hypersensitivity, toxicity, autoimmunity is still an enigmatic issue. It is not easy to diagnose, as the resulting diseases are often puzzling, and the test procedures are not yet definitively established. The last few years have brought many new insights and dramatically changed our view of hypersensitivity reactions. What was considered unpredictable became, for some drugs, highly predictable. What was bizarre became a well understood disease and  protocols on how to diagnose became available. Simultaneously new issues have arisen, for example, the side effects of biologicals have become a growing concern. So it is time to meet again and to discuss the latest progress with your colleagues.

This year’s topic will be Pharmacology and Toxicology in Times of Change: Opportunities and Perspectives. The aim of the meeting is to gather researchers and scientists interested or working in the fields of experimental pharmacology, clinical pharmacology, clinical, experimental or regulatory toxicology, or in pharmaceutical medicine. Each discipline will present the opportunities and perspectives in their fields. In this context we also aim to encourage and foster the contacts between the academic, clinical and industrial sector. Another benefit of the meeting is that it provides to our younger members the possibility for contacts in order to help them preparing their career plans in the academic, clinical, industrial or other fields. 

This first EU summit on chronic diseases will discuss medical, social and economic benefits of sustainable investments in health, ways to reduce the burden of chronic diseases, and how to strengthen the prevention and management of chronic diseases, with a focus on EU added value and action.
