This webinar panel session will discuss a number of topics with regards to emerging methods and best practices for in vitro systems which are increasingly used for biological research, toxicology, design and screening, disease modelling, and diagnostics. In particular, the focus will be on practices required for ensuring quality and reproducibility of results including good cell culture practice, documentation, and transfer of protocols, data management and analysis, comparison of methods, and reporting of information.

Objectives of the meeting:

  • Critical assessment of general and specific learnings of the EU-ToxRisk project and its resulting key deliverable, the Advisory document on NAM-enhanced read-across, including feedback and endorsements from the Regulatory Advisory Board, the OECD IATA Case Studies Project, and international regulatory toxicologists, as well as outlining of remaining challenges (Session 1).
  • Presentation of novel running case studies with new challenging regulatory and scientific questions, such as testing of chemicals with little or no observed adverse effects, with multi-target organ toxicity, which undergo metabolism, or with the need for ab-initio risk assessment (Sessions 2+3).
  • Outlook towards future validation approaches and application of NAMs for risk assessment in new frameworks, projects, and partnerships, including a platform to jump-start new efforts in next-generation risk assessment (Sessions 4+5).

In this presentation, we will see different research scenarios where toxicokinetic modeling was involved converting dose exposure for purposes of priority setting and screening-level risk assessment of chemicals classes.  The examples will range from rare earth metals, in-commerce list, and domestic substance list and polyfluoroalkyl substances.  We will find out how the development of predictive tools and informed utility of non-traditional toxicity data is being viewed in a regulatory decision-making context.

EUFEPS started to establish the series “EUFEPS Talks”, to strengthen the scientific exchange in pharmaceutical sciences at the European level.

Next talk on Februar 22, 2021 from 4 pm – 5 pm CET, held by Sjaak Bot (Senior Advisor Global Regulatory Affairs Janssen)

The devasting Covid-19 crisis asks for efficient and timely regulatory readiness and response to catalyze access to effective and safe vaccines and medicines. Finding here the right balance is a challenge for all stakeholders, i.e. industry, authorities and society at large. We see now the first Covid-19 vaccines being approved and deployed, more are expected to come. An accomplishment in terms of speed and efficiency never seen before. But also with inherent scientific and public debate. In this EUFEPS Talk we will discuss this regulatory balancing act where there is never a dull moment.

Kurssprache: Deutsch/partly English

Kursleitung: Alexandra Kroll, Lothar Aicher
