The OpenTox 2022 Conference activity will take place online from 12 - 16 September supported by online tools for poster presentations, webinars, hackathon, and communications (OpenTox Slack).

The University of Basel, together with the Research Ethics Committee of the Canton Zürich and swissethics, invites to an international scientific symposium.

The aim is to discuss how scientists, clinicians, regulators, research ethics committees, academic institutions, and funding agencies share responsibilities to enhance value and progress in science and medicine. This was a key concern of Prof. Dr. Meier-Abt as a researcher and former Vice President of the University of Basel.

The four-day scientific programme will examine food and feed safety from the broader perspective of sustainable food systems, focusing on the need to implement a “One Health – One Environment” approach and exploring possible developments of risk assessment science.

By bringing together scientists with diverse backgrounds and expertise, the conference will be an important opportunity to share knowledge and contribute to a crucial debate, addressing key topics on the EU political agenda.

This workshop will highlight recent research activities and initiatives that provide important ideas and lessons that can be applied to accelerate the development and use of new approach methods (NAMs) in chemical risk assessments. Utilizing a case study approach, the workshop will illustrate the use and evaluation of NAMs for specific decision contexts, for exploring knowledge gaps, and for identifying the challenges and opportunities for future research in developing and applying NAMs.  

There is no fee to register or participate in this workshop.

Every session will be transmitted live on a virtual platform with the option for questions to be submitted electronically. They will also be recorded for subsequent on-demand viewing so delegates can attend every presentation of both parallel sessions. All posters will be available on the virtual platform too.

This event offers a forum for constructive discussion on how we can all contribute towards a reduced pollution society while still combatting the challenges of climate change and the necessary green transition.

Animal testing is often used to evaluate the potential risks, uses, and environmental impacts of chemicals. New Approach Methods (NAMs) are technologies and approaches (including computational modeling, in vitro assays, and testing using alternative animal species) that can inform hazard and risk assessment decisions without the use of animal testing.

This one-day virtual workshop will address the committee’s charge and inform the consensus report by addressing elements of a scientific confidence framework for NAMs pertinent to risk assessment ...

The meeting will connect researchers interested or working in the fields of experimental phar‐ macology, clinical pharmacology, clinical, experimental or regulatory toxicology, and in phar‐ maceutical medicine. The structure of the program will allow each discipline to present their field and its perspectives. A key objective of the conference is to promote interactions be‐ tween academic, clinical and industrial sectors.

This webinar introduces the QSAR Toolbox together with practical advice on how to use its new and essential features. It will also give an overview of future developments planned for the QSAR Toolbox in the coming years.
