The theme “Toxicology addresses Society's real-life risks for sustainable health and well-being” reflects the desire to address topics dealing with future advances in toxicology, including emerging technologies in safety assessment to develop viable and practical application programs to safeguard human health and the environment.

The conference aims at presenting and discussing established or innovative methods of risk research. Contributions from all areas of risk research are welcome (i.e., risk analysis, risk evaluation, risk management, risk communication, risk perception, risk behaviour, risk governance and related fields). Scientists from different disciplines researching different risk topics (e.g., health risks, environmental risks, economic risks) are strongly encouraged to participate in the conference. 21 Aug 2025: The 18th SPhSD is placed under the theme of «Emerging Trends in Pharmaceutical Sciences Recent Academic Appointments in Switzerland». Seven recently appointed colleagues from the universities of Basel, Bern and Geneva, and ETH Zurich will address pharmaceutical sciences from the perspective of their respective disciplines. As in previous years, MSc and PhD students, and post doctoral scientists will have the opportunity to present their latest research in a poster session, and three abstracts will be selected for short oral presentations. The Symposium will provide an overview of the ASPA NGRA workflow and linked case studies, as well as the developed integrative NAM toolbox, to outline the current scientific state of the art in next-generation risk assessment (NGRA) and what is needed.
