Introduction to new hepatocellular models such as HepatoPearl (3Dspheroids by ESPCI), transgenic HepaRG (Kac Japan, Sigma USA and INRA France) and hepatoblastoma. Participants will learn how to analyse derive standard regulatory endpoints (e.g. micronucleus assay) with these models. Also an overview of the in silico liver gene regulatory network and its quantification for cholestasis prediction (Strand/Syngene, india).

Over the last several years, on a global basis, many exposure science research programs have ramped up to meet the challenges of the quickly advancing risk-based decision making paradigm. These new approaches offer considerable promise for use in risk-based priority setting, screening and more complex decision contexts. This workshop will promote common understanding of the opportunities (and challenges) inadvancing fit-for-purpose exposure science tools to accelerate risk-based assessments of chemical products.

One day of lectures on read-across and two days on how to integrate data and run it through CEFIC-LRI AMBIT2-tool (Nina Jeliazkova, IdeaConsult), ToxRead (Emilio Benfenati, Mario Negri), Toxtrack, (Costanza Rovida, EU-Toxrisk21, CAAT-Europe), and REACH-Across (Anne Bonhoff, UL), including a case study walk-through (Elena Fioravanzo, S-IN), and integration of read-across datasets under IUCLID 6 (Monica Locatelli, REACH Mastery). A practical toxicological course hosted by Prof. V. Rogiers and 3R companies on applicability of 3 different skin test systems for skin irritation (EpiSkin, OECD TG 439), skin sensitization (Senzagen) and skin permeability (Eurosafe), and an in vitro 3D reconstructed cornea-like model developed by MatTek for eye irritation detection (OECD TG 492).

The JRC's Chemical Safety and Alternative Methods Unit, which incorporates the EU Reference Laboratory for Alternatives to Animal Testing (EURL ECVAM), is organising a JRC Summer School on the topic of "Alternative Approaches for Risk Assessment". The overall aim is to provide comprehensive training on state-of-the-art alternative (non-animal) approaches to predictive toxicology and to promote their use within modern chemical risk assessment practice. The Summer School is specifically tailored for post-graduate students (PhD/Masters) and early-career scientists working in relevant fields. It will provide valuable insights into principles and methodologies of human health and environmental risk assessment using non-animal approaches, drawing from scientific, regulatory, and industrial perspectives. SETAC Europe and EUROTOX have initiated a new collaboration with the aim of “bridging the gap between toxicology and ecotoxicology”. Three initiatives within this context have been planned for the SETAC Europe 2017 conference. Further information.  The deadline for the submission of abstracts is 23 November 2016.

The aim of the meeting is to gather researchers and scientists interested or working in the fields of experimental pharmacology, clinical pharmacology, clinical, experimental or regulatory toxicology, or in pharmaceutical medicine. Each discipline will present the opportunities and perspectives in their fields. In this context we also aim to encourage and foster the contacts between the academic, clinical and industrial sector. The official language will be English. The deadline for abstracts submission (e‐mail) will be around the 20th of March 2017.

This 3R meeting highlights challenges of serum-free cell culture. Representatives from the cell culture industry and applied scientists will throw light on current issues with both serum and its replacement. Deadline for registration: 31 March 2017.
