In this Forum Animalfree Research will discuss the possibility of establishing a 3R-Center in Switzerland, and how it could contribute to improved implementation of the 3R-concept. It brings together experts from existing 3R-Centers in order to benefit from their knowledge and discuss options and challenges of founding a comparable Swiss institution. See programme.

"Data-driven innovation in the pharma and biotech industries" This event is particularly relevant for large and small pharma and biotech companies interested in:  • Using the free public tools, data resources and services that are available through SIB and ELIXIR partners  • Hearing successful examples of companies that are active in utilizing big data in their business  • Networking and building collaborations with other companies and ELIXIR partners.  This ELIXIR Innovation and SME Forum is organized by SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics and ELIXIR, and will take place alongside the successful [BC]2 Basel Computational Biology Conference. 

In-vitro Systems Toxicology Approaches for Aerosol based Product Assessment

The principal themes of the academic programme of the Congress are: Toxic deaths; Drugs of misuse; Critical care in poisons cases; Toxicology in specific populations and, finally, a session on the use, usefulness and validity of experimental data in toxicology and the management of patients. There will also be mini-symposia focussing on the Toxicology of anti-diabetic medications, Antidote availability and Veterinary toxicology. Interspersed within these will be a round table session, pro-con debates on hot-topics, and also sessions for discussing recent papers and publications. 

The aim of the course is to give participants an overview of recent advances related to chemical risk management at workplaces. Special emphasis will be in occupational exposure limits and their application at workplaces and the management of special issues like combined exposures, skin exposure, nanoparticles and REACH & OSH interface.

The regulatory acceptance of alternative methods is an ever-evolving area of the 3Rs of toxicology testing and there is a worldwide effort to develop, validate and adopt methods for regulatory submission and product approvals. Three speakers will provide a general overview of alternative methods, including an update on their status of acceptance, with a second focus on recently-validated tests, and finally highlight up-and-coming methods and regulatory challenges.

Pharmaceutics is the discipline that deals with the design and manufacturing of the drug product. Drugs are rarely used only as a pure substance but instead are used in the form of a medicine, i.e. a formulated preparation or a dosage form. This course aims to introduce the various aspects of the administration routes (e.g. oral, nasal, transdermal), the formulation (e.g. liquid, solid, powder) and the manufacturing of medicines. Besides a broad overview about the basic concepts of pharmaceutics in general students will acquire specific knowledge of excipients, dosage forms and their physical constraints as well as understanding of the functions of the several pharmaceutical packagings and devices used for medication. Furthermore the participants will receive knowledge about methods and procedures used in the quality control of medicines, both in development and manufacturing. 50th anniversary of the SSPT.  

This multidisciplinary congress provides a forum for both internationally established and young researchers to exchange advanced knowledge on Food Contaminants and Human Health. The congress will be comprised of keynote lectures given by world-renowned scholars, in addition to oral and poster sessions. State of the Art developments in different fields of chemical mixtures: analytical chemistry, risk/exposure assesment, bioavailability and toxicity of food contaminants will be covered during presentations.
